River Homelink student Jenny Drygas Miller served as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives the week of Feb. 25 – March 1. She was sponsored by her 17th District Rep. Paul Harris.

“Civic education is an important part of our state’s curriculum, and our House Page Program gives students a firsthand look at government in action,” said Harris, R-Vancouver. “Jenny did a fantastic job paging. This experience has a way of inspiring students to stay involved in government. Perhaps Jenny will be back in Olympia someday as a state legislator or other elected official.”

Jenny is the daughter of Henry Drygas and Susan Miller.

Every year students from around the state apply to participate in the Legislative Page Program. Students spend a week attending page school, where they learn the inner workings of state government, and assist legislators on the House floor. Students also draft legislation and present their bills in a mock committee hearing to fellow pages.

Pages earn $35 per day while serving in the program. To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school.
